Addiction

Suicide and accidental overdoses affect individuals from various backgrounds and communities. Those most affected are people suffering from mental illnesses often tied to addiction, in a never-ending circle. This is a matter of life and death, and we need more social workers and psychologists trained and on the front lines to address these crisis. The addition of Fantanyl and other dangerous ingredients to illicit drugs has to be controlled through government safety programs, so this poison does not continue to take the lives of the most vulnerable in our society. Day centres, support groups that are easily accessible and non-judgemental, as well as safe sites for needles and check-in for any spread of disease are all very much in need. Educating at risk youth on the dangers and misfortune of a life of addiction is crucial to avoid this pattern.

Fight against homelessness

Having a roof over your head, heat and air conditioning, food in the fridge and clothing for all seasons are necessities that are not being met or provided by the current CAQ government. There are far too many people living on the streets and in encampments, desperate for help and a way out of the daily trauma they face. We have to do better in serving the homeless and providing them with shelter, support, resources on the ground, psychologists, social workers and warming centres that are open 24/7. Homelessness does not solely exist from 9am to 5pm, it exists every minute of ever day and requires a solution that is well thought out and planned to make a difference.
